Additional Information

In 1972, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) instituted a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program (NPDES), to regulate point source pollutants that discharge into the receiving waters of the United States.

In accordance with this program and the Clean Water Act, the West Skokie Drainage District operates under an NPDES permit issued by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA). The permit outlines a schedule of monitoring requirements, best management practices and conditions designed to promote the reduction of pollutants in stormwater.

The following materials provide current information concerning the District’s efforts to monitor and reduce pollutants within the stormwater drainage system operated and maintained by the District.
